What's the difference between maple, cherry, and quarter sawn oak if all are stained the same color?

The biggest difference is going to be cost. Maple is a darker wood anyway but is usually expensive oak is usually on the high side as well. Cherry may have a reddish tint to it but with that dark a stain it might not show. Oak has deeper grains If you really want a nice look try finding some walnut.
