Exploding seagulls?

I've heard that if you feed Alka Seltzer to seagulls (or presumably other birds), they explode. This being because they are incapable of burping. Does anyone know if it's true? I'm not about to go and try it, by the way, in case any animal rights maniacs are reading this and decide to bombard me with abuse. It is merely curiosity.
