An old friend just had a baby. Can you please help me understand why I'm so envious?

Maybe shes scared because you know about her past and most of her new "friends" don't. Plus why would you want to be friends with someone like that? Honestly, even If I didn't like the gift I wouldn't announce it, thats very childish and immature. To you she may have changed drastically but sometimes its just for show. Maybe shes just changed into a backstabber and very heartless. Even though I get b**chy sometimes with my hormones going crazy I could never do a thing like that. And to judge one of my friends would be a horrible thing to do especially if they are there for me and supporting me. I would say that maybe she was never a good friend and why would you want that negativity in your life? When you are READY for a baby and want one (not because someone else has one), thats when you'll be truly happy, you won't have to judge your friends and critize their gifts. Sometimes people don't change they just adapt to their surroundings. Have fun with real friends who make you feel good about yourself and not embarr you.
